And, if I may note, it's not so much your Honorable Kills that count towards your rank, it's the number of contribution points you rack up. I'm sure there is some arcane formula for estimating how many you get for what kill, but I don't know it. What I have seen is that, as far as gaining contribution points are concerned, it's better to go hunting solo rather than joining a raid -- with a raid you'll get heaps of honorable kills, but your points will be lower overall; while if you solo you've got no backup, you're also not sharing your points among the entire raid's killscore. By way of example, I've made Grunt (417th in standing) with 34 HKs and 900-some contribution points, while one of my guildmates (a Grunt, 499th standing, if I'm not mistaken) has 70-odd kills racked up in raids, but only ~500CP.

Keep in mind that contribution points are counted at the end of the week and titles and such doled out on Sunday night/Monday morning, I think. The necessary points to gain a title are also supposed to be calculated relatively rather than absolutely; rather than a code which says, "You need 5000 contribution points to make Sergeant," the codes says, "The top player is Grand Marshal, the 99th percentile gets the next title, the 95th percentile gets the next title," and so on. If you want high rank, you must PvP a lot, and be good at it.

Contribution points, as I understand, are doled on the basis of damage done to enemy players. If a party member of yours beats down another player to 1 hit point and then you kill him, you both get HKs being in the party together, but your buddy who did all the work will get a lot more contribution points. It's possible contribution points are gained additionally from your actual HK count. I'm not sure. Better check www.worldofwarcraft.com to make sure.
