Until you get to level 70 the best thing I can suggest for gaining gold is just to do every quest you can while leveling. Blizzard made an insane amount of quests and they are usually pretty easy and the gold rewards are really nice. You will gain over 1000 gold just buy doing all the quests as you level.If you gather or farm any it is not hard to gain gold at a descent rate. The rate you will gain gold will really take off when you have an epic flying mount and can scout for herbs or mining nodes at a very fast pace due to the mounts fast speed.

I myself use my mount to look for mining nodes at Nether Storm and it doesn't take long to get a few stacks of adamantine. Other things that sell well is Marks of Saragas, Arcane Tomes, Fel Armaments, and signet rings. The rep rewards from Aldor and Scryer are amazing so people are paying a lot of gold to get these items to increase there rep. I myself have a nice epic sword my rogue uses and the shoulder enchant is better than the old ZG enchant. It takes a while to get the rep up but once you have exalted status the rewards are well worth it.

Play the auction house. Gems, enchanting supplies, potions, herbs, metals, and many more items have high values. Get to know average prices and when something is being sold low buy it and resell for a bit more. Or if you are brave buy out a category and try to pump up the price.
