Contribution points, as I understand, are doled on the basis of damage done to enemy players. If a party member of yours beats down another player to 1 hit point and then you kill him, you both get HKs being in the party together, but your buddy who did all the work will get a lot more contribution points. It's possible contribution points are gained additionally from your actual HK count. I'm not sure.
